PATHALAIYA: Followers of Ram Bahadur Bamjan, who is also known as Little Buddha, brought vehicular movement to a halt at Pasaha of Dumarawana VDC, Bara, along the Pathlaiya-Nijgadh road section, demanding that Bamjan be issued citizenship certificate in the name of Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh, a group said to be formed for his protection.

Passengers were stranded for four hours due to the road obstruction. Though Bamjan’s birth date has been registered as Ramlal, Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh has demanded that Bamjan be issued citizenship certificate and passport in the name of ‘Dharma Sangh’ — something which is not possible as per the existing laws.

Vehicular movement resumed after a meeting between Area Administration Officer Binay Srivastav and representatives of Dharma Sangh. Nonetheless, the administration refused to issue citizenship certificate to Bamjan.

Srivastav said he urged the Dharma Sangh to first fulfil legal procedures which are necessary for obtaining citizenship certificate. While Bamjan’s mother Mayadevi claims to have registered her son’s birth date, the Dharma Sangh has got another one issued. “How can a person have two separate birth registrations?” asked Mayadevi showing Bamjan’s birth certificate which she said was the original one. In spite of all these, no action has been taken against the officials of Ratanpuri VDC for issuing a fake birth registration certificate to Bamjan.

This is not the first time that the 22-year-old Buddha Boy has run into controversy. Recently, Bamjan and the Dharma Sangh were in the eye of the storm for ‘taking two women hostage’. Dharma Sangh members have also been involved in brawls, of late with journalists.

strange, isn’t it that people actually believe whatever is written by journalists. Opposition to genuine holy persons is nothing new: it is the same old story which has been enacted with Jesus, Krishna, Rama, to name but a few – and then in more recent times Paramahansa Yogananda, Sathya Sai Baba and Amritanandamayi Ma (Amma) The wordly men will always attack what is spititual. and a holy person is rarely honoured in his own home town or region. It is the way of the world. Let us wait and see how Maha Sambodhi Dharma Sanghaji reinvigorates the Buddhist religion, fallen as it is into atheism: I personally can’t wait! and may His blessings shower on the whole world! anjala devi, UK

Alas! It is totally heartbreaking to watch Mr. Ram Bomjan stubbornly continues to bring himself, and others such dreadful harms with his so-called teachings. The harms which is beyond any kind of physical harms; such long-lasting harms which may last beyond this fragile body. What the media have done by creating false news, gossips, and rumors in the name of “entertainment”; what big companies have done by foraging the forests, or kill its inhabitants in the name of “profits” are undoubtedly BARBARIC and UNWHOLESOME. But they are a speck of dust compared to what Mr. Ram Bomjan, and/or his devotees have done to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha by proclaiming such perverse and harmful Dharma as “True Dharma.” Thus, he is deliberately bringing terrible dangers both to himself AND others. Both his path, and teachings are essentially CONTRADICTORY to Gautama Buddha. Only an eyeless being would say that Mr. Ram Bomjan’s teaching is inline with Gautama Buddha’s, totally mistaken a poisonous snake for a rope! Victimizing each other, with none is benefitted by the relationship, both Mr. Ram Bomjan, and his devotees are in their path to prolong and strengthen the vicious circle of ignorance. How totally heartless when some people, and media find such miserable condition as “entertaining”… Dhyana, hrdaya

It’s so funny that people with such great ideologies slug for such pity cause. I bet proclaiming to be GOD and being a GOD are two different things and MR.Bamjan getting into such controversy for a passport and citizen is a ridicule for his name and fame that he has earned. DIWAKAR BHANDARI

PATHLAIYA: Police are yet to take action against Ram Bahadur Bamjan’s aides who allegedly held two women captive for ‘distracting’ the Buddha Boy during his meditation.

Members of Bodhi Shrawan Sangh recently freed the two women –– one Nepali and the other Slovak national –– after allegedly keeping them in captivity for three months. Although the Slovak woman, identified as ‘Marichi’, told police that she was chained in captivity, police said they lack enough evidence to press charges against the Sangh.

Bodhi Shrawan released Marichi and the Nepali women on Sunday and Tuesday respectively. Following their release, police handed over Marichi to the Immigration Department.

“We have not initiated any action as the women did not formally file a case against Bamjan’s aides,” said Inspector KP Sharma of Area Police Office.

Sharma said police are conducting an investigation into the case. Bara Assistant Chief District Officer Chandra Bahadur Karki said probe into the incident was underway. Karki vowed to punish anyone found guilty of unlawfully detaining the two women.

Marichi –– whose passport bears the name Zsuzsana Takacs –– came to Nepal to see Ram Bahadur Bamjan.

She has been kept in the custody of Immigration Department in Kathmandu as her visa expired on June 3 last year.

DIWAKAR BHANDARI

PATHLAIYA: A Slovak woman, who was being held captive by followers of Ram Bahadur Bamjan, nicknamed Buddha Boy, has been freed.

The 35-year-old woman, identified only as Marichi, was freed last night at around nine after mediapersons, police and locals raised questions about her abrupt disappearance about three months ago. Whereabouts of another woman from Sindhupalchowk, identified as Mata (nun), who is also being held captive by Bamjan’s followers, is still unknown.

The two women were taken hostage by the followers of Bamjan, who have formed Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh to what they say protect ‘Buddha Boy’, on charges of distracting the man in meditation in the Halkhoriya jungle.

Inspector KP Sharma of Area Police Office, Simara, who met Marichi at Lama Hotel this morning, told mediapersons that the Slovak woman looked tense. “She said she was kept in a tank in a ditch in Halkhoriya,” said Sharma.

Krishna Lama, who owns Lama Hotel, said a man identifying himself as Darshan Limbu from Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh had left her in the hotel. “He appeared out of the blue on a motorbike last night, dropped her and left,” said Lama. Marichi came to Nepal two years ago to pay visit to Bamjan, who has been meditating since 2005, but had gone missing since December 28.

A scared Marichi with a broken arm refused to talk to reporters and urged them not to photograph her. “I won’t say a thing; Sangh and Bamjan have forced me into the promise that I won’t open my mouth,” said Marichi who seems to have received injuries on her head as well.

She was too moved to speak when people close to her met her this morning. “She wept herself into a state of exhaustion as she said she was tortured,” said a local from Simara. “She said she felt like she was at death’s door.”

Marichi could not tell about the other missing woman. “They kept me in ignorance about the nun. She was kept captive somewhere else, not with me,” a local quoted her.

Bara SP Dan Singh Bohara said he had also interrogated Marichi and that investigation was under way.

Police later handed over Marichi to Birgunj-based Immigration Office as her one-year visa for Nepal has expired.

Though her visa had expired, the Slovak woman was meditating in the Halkhoriya jungle and during one of those days she was taken hostage by Bamjan’s followers accusing her ‘of being a witch’.

In custody for overstaying visa

KATHMANDU: A Slovak woman, who was freed by the followers of Ram Bahadur Bamjan after keeping her hostage for about three months on Sunday night, was brought to Kathmandu on Monday. According to an official at the Department of Immigration, Marichi has been taken into custody as she has overstayed her visa. DoI officials did not allow media to talk to Marichi. However, according to Chegu Lama , a resident of Simara, who is assisting Marichi , she is in a state of distress and does not speak to anyone. Interestingly, Lama said she does not speak anything against Bamjan. In Simara, Marichi had said she wanted to return to Slovakia as soon as possible. She had also requested people close to her to help manage Rs 50,000 for her.

Buddha Boy turns violent‚ thrashes siblings

Holds three of his brothers hostage overnight

DIWAKAR BHANDARI

PATHLAIYA: Twenty-two-year old Ram Bahadur Bamjan, who is said to have been continuously meditating since 2005 and has been nicknamed the Buddha Boy, has been in the news of late for all the wrong reasons.

It has been only a week since his followers freed two women (one Slovak and another Nepali) after keeping them in captivity. But now, it seems, Bamjan has started taking matters into his own hands. The Buddha Boy reportedly turned violent and beat up one of his brothers yesterday night and sister this morning.

Bamjan thrashed his brother after he, along with his two brothers and some others, reached the Halkhoriya jungle to urge him to initiate action against those who had ‘sexually harassed’ the Slovak woman in captivity. A section of the media had quoted the Slovak woman as saying that Darshan Limbu of Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh, an organisation formed to protect Bamjan, had sexually harassed her.

Those who had gone to meet Bamjan accused Limbu of wielding a sword to chase them away and Bamjan of thrashing the eldest brother Ganga Bahadur and holding Ganga and other two brothers (Dil Bahadur and Babulal) hostage. All of them were released this morning.

Bamjan’s sister Raj Kumari said her three brothers had visited Halkhoriya to tell Bamjan that unruly behaviour of some of his followers was tarnishing Bamjan and Sangh’s image.

Bamjan’s mother and sisters had reached the Halkhoriya jungle this morning. Bamjan’s younger sister Asali Lama said even she was thrashed by Bamjan. “He beat me up when we reached there to free our brothers,” said Asali. “Guru (Bamjan) hit me on my head but said nothing.”

Mayadevi, Bamjan’s mother, who coincidently shares her name with the mother of Gautam Buddha, said she was disappointed after the incident. “His activities have let me down,” she said.

Bamjan’s brother Dil Bahadur, however, said ‘some individuals with their vested interests’ were trying to tarnish Guru’s reputation. He added that appropriate steps would be taken to press the police administration to initiate action against Dinesh Limbu.

Police pay obeisance, return

PATHLAIYA: A police team that had reached the Halkhoriya jungle to take stock of the situation on Monday morning bowed before Ram Bahadur Bamjan, paid obeisance to him and returned, leaving those who fell victim to Bamjan’s wrath seething. A police team led by Inspector KP Sharma, however, held discussions with members of Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh. Upon his return from Halkhoriya, Inspector Sharma pledged to initiate action against the guilty if a case was filed but refused to go into detail. Bamjan’s aides did not allow mediapersons to carry cameras.

Relations with family sour

PATHLAIYA: Relations between Ram Bahadur Bamjan and his family had soured after the latter expressed dissatisfaction towards the working style of Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh. The family was not in touch with Bamjan for the past one year. Bamjan’s sister Raj Kumari said Bamjan had distanced himself from the family after they began to raise voice against the wrongdoings of Sangh members. According to her, the family had also opposed Sangh’s decision to keep two girls — Dipshikha and Bishnu —inside the meditation centre. “Guru (Bamjan) dismissed our request to keep boys instead of girls,” she said. “After that we stopped visiting Bamjan, and they prevented us from entering the centre.”

I think everybody should just leave him alone. His ‘supposed’ followers are the one’s taking advantage of this situation. If he wants to leave and be secluded, let him be, he just wants to meditate; which is very nice If he wants to preach he will, and ‘followers’ if they believe him so much should try to be like him and try meditate like him and become enlightened . poor saint… he is just sitting there and metitating 24hrs for world peace and non-violence. how can he be responsible for the actions of his so-called “followers”? he doesn’t have any “followers”. this news is a non-sense and seems like it is promoted by the same group that was trying to stop him from STOPPING the most-cruel tradition of killing of thousands of buffalos in the name of religion in Gadi Mai Mela. I am deeply saddened that this Guru is displaying such an ugly act of violence. Especially, towards females. His own brothers and sister. it is shameful to say the least. Religion is such a brutal divider of people. This Boy must be arrested. Glad I canceled my trip to see this young, disturbed man. it hurts me. Sarah Edwards, California

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Don’t be hasty with decisions. Dhrama Sangha is still a boy who has not seen much of the real world. I find it highly improbable that he could hit all these people. I don’t think he is crazy. Chili Chill, Milwaukee

I speak to his followers each day until they rejected me from their forum because I continuously tell them that this kid is not enlightened. He just has mere psychic abilities which do not mean anything in the wisdom of truth. He is full of violence while talking about peace. Never trust a person who preaches peace. The buddha boy is lost. And, I have said this from the beginning. Jason Thomas, USA
